RizzStats' Upload Screen Has Four Checkboxes. Here's What Each One Actually Does.
By the time you reach the last step of RizzStats' upload wizard, the hard part is already done. Your Tinder or Hinge export has been read and parsed right there in your browser, and the raw file already can't leave your device even if you wanted it to. What's left is a short screen with four checkboxes, all switched on by default. Most people click through it in a few seconds without reading it. Here's what you're actually agreeing to when you do, and what's worth turning off first.
The four boxes, and what each one buys you
Bio, city, gender, and who you're interested in. RizzStats presents all four as opt-out, checked before you've even looked at them. Turn one off and that field gets nulled before it ever leaves your browser.
- Bio. Feeds into how RizzStats reads your profile, including the premium AI Roast if you've unlocked it. Leave it checked and your bio text becomes part of your account; uncheck it and RizzStats never sees it.
- City. Powers the location-aware parts of your dashboard. Hinge exports don't carry a city field at all, so on a Hinge upload this checkbox is a no-op. RizzStats says as much right on the screen rather than pretending the toggle does anything.
- Gender and who you're interested in. Both come straight from your export, if your app included them in the first place, and both feed the parts of the product that personalize what you see.
None of this is permanent in the sense that you're locked in forever. You can re-upload later with different choices. But whatever you send in this pass is what gets stored until you delete your account, so it's worth the extra four seconds.
The one thing that isn't a checkbox
Notice what's missing from that list: your messages. There's no "include my conversations" toggle anywhere in the wizard, and that's not an oversight. Match rate and reply rate are built directly from message timestamps, so message text has to be read to compute those numbers and to write your Roast. That's disclosed in RizzStats' Privacy Policy rather than offered as a checkbox on this screen, since switching it off would mean switching off the metrics themselves. Worth knowing going in. It's the one part of the exchange you can't partially opt out of the way you can with bio or city.
Where people actually get stuck
The checkboxes assume you already have a file in hand, and that's the part that trips people up more than any privacy setting. Tinder and Hinge don't hand over your export instantly. They email you a download link, and both apps put a clock on it once it lands. Tinder's link expires 24 hours after the email goes out. Hinge's export stays available for 48 hours before it expires. Request it, then actually go get it. Don't let it sit in your inbox over a weekend.
RizzStats' wizard is built around that wait. Pick your app, come back once the export lands, and if you close the tab in between, it remembers where you left off up through the drop-zone step. It can't restore the file itself though, so keep it saved somewhere you'll actually find again.
The two exports also aren't shaped the same way. Tinder's is a single JSON file (or a zip containing one). Hinge splits its data across multiple files, and RizzStats needs both the matches file and the account file to build your full picture, not just one or the other. If a Hinge upload looks thin once it lands on your dashboard, that's usually the first thing to check: did you drop both files, or only the one with your matches in it?
The choice that isn't on this screen at all
One more thing worth knowing: opting into RizzStats' research program isn't part of the upload flow at all. That invitation shows up later, as a card on your dashboard once your first results are in, or anytime after in account settings. It's a separate, explicit yes, never bundled with the checkboxes above or with agreeing to the Terms of Service. Skip it here and you haven't missed anything. You can say yes later without re-uploading a thing.
